Mrs. Sammons Hackett is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of DHPE’s overall strategic direction and providing oversight for fiscal, human resources and operations functions and is the official representative for DHPE to all external partners. She also markets the Systems Change for Health (formerly Shaping Policy for Health™) trainings, and health promotion/health education/health equity fields. For over 36 years she has worked in the fields of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program development and implementation including nutrition, cardiovascular disease prevention, cancer prevention and early detection, women’s health, rape and sexual assault, health education, physical activity, HIV and program integration. She has over 34 years’ experience in budget preparations, grants management, resource allocation and monitoring. Mrs. Sammons Hackett has expertise in the development of culturally sensitive community-based outreach and educational plays, videotapes, brochures, and training modules. She has participated on several national, regional and statewide planning and advisory councils/committees and expert scientific panels.
As a graduate of the Certified Public Managers program, she has devoted her entire career to public service. She has a Master’s of Science degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science degree from Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC and belongs to both Alumni associations. As a 43-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she has incorporated her public health experience into the Sorority’s public service programs.
