NDDUnited has a new website

According to the Coalition for Health Funding, NDDUnited has a new website, and logo! Check it out at http://www.nddunited.org/. All sequester related materials are now there along with much more about the federal budget and the Coalition for Health Funding's collective responses.

CDC Grant Funding Profiles Tool

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Fiscal Year 2012 Grant Funding Profiles Tool is now posted. The very helpful searchable tool provides detailed access to CDC grants by state, territory, and Congressional district. It includes many data fields, including one for the Prevention and Public Health Fund (Fund) which allows you to see a snapshot of Fund uses in a particular state.

How Does Your County Rank? County Health Rankings & Roadmaps Released

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute have released the fourth annual County Health Rankings. Nearly every county in the country is ranked on health outcomes (how healthy we are) and on health factors (how healthy we can be). This information helps counties see where they are doing well and where improvement is needed to ensure that every community is a healthy place to live, learn, work, and play. Availability of FY13 funds for chronic disease coordinated programming

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the availability of FY13 funds for chronic disease coordinated programming -- S tate Public Health Actions to Prevent and Control Diabetes, Heart Disease, Obesity and Associated Risk Factors and Promote School Health. There are two components to the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), one non-competitive ($28 million), and one competitive ($42 million). Letters of intent on the competitive portion due by March 19th, and applications for both components by April 19th. Full information is available and you just need to insert funding announcement number CDC-RFA-DP13-1305.

Calling for applications for 2014 APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government

The American Public Health Association (APHA) is calling for applications for its 2014 APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government. "Candidates must have strong public health credentials and be interested in spending one year in Washington, D.C. working in a congressional office on legislative and policy issues related to health, the environment or other public health concerns." Online applications are due April 8th.

Leadership Academies on Reducing Childhood Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meals

The National League of Cities (NLC) is accepting applications (March 25th deadline) from cities for Leadership Academies on Reducing Childhood Hunger through Afterschool and Summer Meals. "Participating cities are eligible to receive additional grants of $30,000 to $60,000 to expand participation in Federal meal programs." The training, "will provide teams of city officials, city staff, and other key stakeholders with strategies for maximizing federal reimbursement of afterschool and summer programs that serve healthy meals to children and youth." NLC is hosting a webinar on Friday, March 8th at 1:00 p.m. (EST) for potential applicants.
